Childbirth
When pregnancy is discovered, one of the first thoughts a woman has is about what the day of her baby's birth will be like. The way she will bring her child into the world is one of the greatest concerns and even anxieties of expectant mothers. What kind of delivery does she want – vaginal, humanized, natural, or cesarean?
  • Types of Childbirth and the Choice

The choice of delivery method can be the most difficult of decisions. This can happen for several reasons, but mainly due to medical advice and the mother's health status. Recently, vaginal delivery has been one of the main topics of discussion in the media, but humanization has also become an important focus. The choice of delivery method depends on a combination of factors; if she wants and is able to have a natural birth, why not try? In reality, the cesarean section has been ahead for many years, but the trend is for this picture to change in the coming years.

Recent research shows that 73% of Brazilian women prefer vaginal birth, but the statistics for cesarean births show that not all can fulfill this wish. Up to 57% of births in Brazil today are performed by cesarean section, though there is a medical need in only about 15% of cases. Cesarean section is a surgical procedure to remove the baby, beneficial to the health of the woman and the child when necessary, either due to a health problem in the mother or risks to which both are exposed.

A law has currently been passed that indicates cesarean section only in cases of proven need, prohibiting early scheduling at will, including requests by cesarean-minded doctors, giving more emphasis to vaginal birth. This type of delivery has increasingly been supported by women, feminist activists, and the Ministry of Health. Greater respect is required for this moment and for the woman's right to give birth with dignity, without being forced into unnecessary or unwanted surgical interventions.

Births in which the mother's wishes are fully respected are called humanized. She may, for example, want family members nearby to witness the big moment, or births in water, where a life is born with all the emotion of those present. After all, the great moment of birth is a unique event between mother and child and will always be special. When the mother wishes for no interventions, it is considered a natural birth.

The wishes of Brazilian mothers regarding various aspects of childbirth are different. This has led to more women seeking home deliveries, known as home birth, assisted by doulas who will respect and support the birth in the way these mothers hope for, with the utmost care.

On Trocando Fraldas you can find various birth stories sent by users, showing the variety and number of cases that may occur. Each comes with its own detail, its own emotion, its own short or long description, but all with the same focus: the arrival of a baby who will bring so much light to the eagerly awaiting family.
