To get pregnant, you need to be in good health, which sometimes requires a different lifestyle. Health starts with what you eat, and in this case, the long-awaited pregnancy does too. The healthier the diet of the woman and her partner, the easier it will be for the baby to arrive. So, what should we include in our diet to help with conception?
Vitamins to Help Conception
The body needs to be healthy to conceive an equally healthy baby. The quality of the gametes will ensure a perfect pregnancy without major problems like malformations or unexpected complications during gestation. The important thing is to nourish yourself properly and not let any important vitamin slip through the cracks.

First, you should consider weight. If the couple is a little overweight, they should start a diet rich in vitamins and low in saturated fats. Losing weight before starting to try helps the whole body perform better. Weight loss also improves the reproductive organs because with less weight it becomes easier to get pregnant. Moreover, excessive sugar in the diet can cause serious problems like weight fluctuations and changes in blood sugar. For some women, this rise in blood sugar can cause diseases commonly found in women who struggle to get pregnant, such as polycystic ovaries. Even though it's a hormonal disease, it can also be caused by overeating and too much sugar.
On the other hand, there are vitamins that help you get pregnant. They are present in foods, but can also be consumed in other forms, such as capsules, when daily life does not allow for a plate full of vitamins and minerals. This more practical method is very attractive, but the best source of vitamins for getting pregnant is really natural, through food. The diet for getting pregnant should include:
Grains: Chickpeas, beans, lentils, brown rice, and corn. In addition to having a low glycemic index, they support the reproductive organs due to their wide range of vitamins and the plant-based proteins, which are excellent especially for men.
Cow's milk: Milk allows for proper transport of fertility hormones through the body. Women and men who want to increase their fertility should drink at least one glass of whole milk per day.
Healthy oils: Olive oil and nuts are great for heart health, but also for reproductive organs. They help improve blood flow to the male testes and female ovaries.
Fish and meat: Fish are sources of omega 3, 6, and 9. These nutrients support good development of the gametes, and are also a great source of iodine. Meats are a source of protein and iron, without which the body becomes sluggish. For good fertility, the couple should also eat about 100g of red meat twice a week.
Some foods in particular help hormonally. Yam is an excellent source of estrogen. It helps increase the levels of this hormone, which allows eggs to mature and the endometrium to grow. Eating yam in the days before ovulation definitely gives a boost to female fertility. For men, tomatoes are a great dietary option during the trying-to-conceive period. The lycopene in tomatoes acts against free radicals, improves seminal acidity, and as a result, increases sperm quality.
The diet for getting pregnant can also include certain drinks. Women with uterine or ovarian problems can drink uxi amarelo tea and cat's claw tea. These teas work together to help with problems such as polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, submural fibroids, and inflammation of the uterus or vaginal canal. Using teas also helps improve circulation.
Anyone trying to have a baby should have a colorful diet and eat every three hours to avoid the opposite effect. It's crucial to avoid going more than three hours without eating, to prevent rebound weight gain after first losing weight. For a healthy pregnancy, we must take care of our bodies even before conception.
