When the pregnancy test comes back positive, a period full of emotions and feelings begins. While the joy of getting pregnant and forming or expanding a family is the predominant feeling for many women during the next 9 months, certain events and circumstances can affect our feelings.
Challenging Moments in Pregnancy
Despite all the happiness that pregnancy brings us as women, there are several possibilities and moments when we go through difficulties. These situations may be related to the physical well-being of mother and child or may be caused by psychological discomforts. The task of becoming a mother is not as simple as it seems at first.

Pregnancy can be a wonderful phase when a woman is prepared and especially when she has dreamed about it for a long time. The first prenatal appointment, the first tests, and the much-anticipated ultrasound bring indescribable feelings. Seeing the fetal heartbeat, buying the first outfit, the first pair of shoes, receiving family gifts, choosing the crib and the wall color for the baby's room—all of this fills not only our hearts with joy, but our souls as well.
Feeling any movement inside the belly brings so much emotion that it feels like butterflies are fluttering inside. And what was just a beating heart at first starts to take on human forms with little legs that move and arms and little hands waving as if they're saying hello. But there are other emotional sides of pregnancy with less positive impacts.
Throughout pregnancy, it's inevitable that some fears arise, such as those related to childbirth. Besides the normal versus cesarean question, many women wonder if everything will go well and if their child will be born healthy. The moment of childbirth is unique and unpredictable, but prenatal care together with healthy eating and completing all requested tests throughout this period will contribute to peace of mind. Other common fears relate to feeling prepared—or not—to become a mother and manage all the responsibility, often needing to balance professional and family life with the baby on the way.
Concerns can even affect the pregnant woman's sleep. Insomnia and strange dreams may be an unavoidable appearance for some. There aren't always serious problems or illnesses behind it; sometimes, it's simply psychological factors. Pregnancy is a period of great transformation, physically and mentally, that can affect us in many ways and impact our feelings and well-being. It's also not uncommon to experience certain difficulties in relationships with your partner, family, or friends.
One of the worst sensations a pregnant woman can experience is a miscarriage. Due to its unpredictability, it makes the moment when the mother is separated from her child incredibly cruel. It takes a lot of psychological strength and good family and friend support to get through this depressing situation and gain the strength for a new attempt. In many cases, the loss is just the beginning of other problems and disorders that will arise.
