More information on 11 Weeks Pregnant
When your baby’s fetal development reaches 11 weeks gestation, he or she measures about 4 cm from head to rump. The fingers and toes are practically fully formed and are already complete with nails. The teeth are also just buds inside the gums and when the time comes they will emerge. The nose is formed, but a thin layer of skin still covers the nasal opening1.
Baby’s Development
At this stage, at 11 weeks, your baby’s eyes and ears are already well developed and can be seen during an ultrasound scan. However, even though they are in the correct place, the ears do not function properly yet, as the internal connections to the brain responsible for their perfect function are not yet fully formed.
At 11 weeks of pregnancy, the eyes already have tiny eyelids that constantly open and close, but the baby is still unable to see light, as the optic nerve is still developing2. The baby is also beginning to open and close the mouth, and these movements can be seen during an ultrasound.
How Mom Is Feeling…
The 11th week has just arrived and it’s hard to tell if you’re actually pregnant or just a little out of shape. For some women, the belly is obvious right away, while for others it might take a bit longer to lose their waistline and start gaining a true pregnancy shape. Mom’s face may already show hormonal changes, as progesterone makes the face rounder and, in some cases, the nose more swollen. And honestly, it’s a charming touch of pregnancy!
Bodily changes start becoming more apparent, and nausea and fatigue start to lessen3. This break may be just the time future moms need to start preparing for the layette and taking care of details they weren’t able to think about before, nor had the energy to attempt. Take advantage of the fact that your 11-week belly is still almost invisible and doesn’t weigh you down, and speed up decisions about the nursery and decorations, which may require more time.
External Factors…
Anxiety at 11 weeks pregnant may keep you awake. The desire to find out the sex soon and to start preparing the layette just the way you dreamed, with the colors you desire, grows stronger, too. But hang in there just a while longer — soon, you’ll be able to find out the sex via ultrasound of your future son or daughter. Take this time to rest, take care of yourself, and enjoy every second; the pregnancy stage goes by really fast!
