9 Weeks Pregnant
Your 9th week begins
- Development The face is still wide and the eyes very far apart from each other.
- To-do You should schedule the nuchal translucency exam for the coming weeks.
- 9 weeks is how many months? 9 weeks pregnant is 3 months. With week 9, you are in the first week of month 3 of your pregnancy.
IMPORTANT: Eating well during pregnancy is essential to ensure proper development of the baby and a healthy life for the mother. Foods rich in nutrients, vitamins, and folic acid ensure the fetal brain’s development and help the woman have a healthy, worry-free pregnancy.
- At week 9, your baby still has a head that is larger than the rest of the body. The face is quite wide, making the eyes far apart and still a bit to the sides.
- The sexual organ is also becoming more visibly defined, but it’s still not possible to see it on ultrasound. However, from the 12th week, you may be able to guess the sex by the shape of the fetal tubercle.
- At 9 weeks pregnant, your baby’s estimated weight is 20 grams and every part of the body already exists, like legs, arms, and ears, as well as the internal organs, which are becoming increasingly well-formed.
- At 9 weeks, the mother’s life at this stage comes down to two words: sleep and nausea.
- Your mood is a real roller coaster—very happy one moment and seconds later in tears for no apparent reason.
More information about 9 Weeks Pregnant
At week 9, your baby’s head is still bigger than the rest of the body. The face is quite wide, which makes the eyes far apart and still somewhat to the sides1. The eyelids have just formed, and the wrists and ankles are more developed. The elbows are also already formed and it is already possible to bend and bring the newly forming fingers to the mouth. Fetal development is running at full steam in this phase.
The sexual organ is also becoming more clearly characterized2, but it’s still not possible to see it on the ultrasound. However, starting from the 12th week it’s already possible to guess the sex by the shape of the fetal tubercle. This is the part where either the penis or vagina is truly forming. At this point, your baby is about 2.3 cm in crown–rump length and is similar in size to a Brazil nut.
At 9 weeks of pregnancy, the estimated weight is about 20 grams. All the baby’s body parts now exist, such as legs, arms, and ears, as well as the internal organs, which are becoming more well-formed. Weight gain will begin to accelerate from this stage, and baby will increasingly look like the little one you’ll hold in your arms in a few months.
How mom is feeling
At 9 weeks pregnant, the mother’s life during this stage can be summed up in two words: sleep3 and nausea. But try to stay calm, because this phase of morning sickness and discomfort—especially in the mornings—usually ends with the end of the first trimester. If this is your first pregnancy, your belly is probably still not showing. If it’s your second pregnancy, you might already notice some rounding and a more noticeable bump.
At this stage, it’s very common for the expectant mother to feel, in addition to the ‘expected’ discomforts, headaches and some back discomfort. This is a result of the changes in your body and hormone levels that are being altered day by day. Your mood is a real roller coaster: you may be very happy one minute and in tears the next for no apparent reason. There’s only cause for concern if these symptoms are very intense and affect your interactions with others. In this case, you should inform your obstetrician to assess for possible depression during pregnancy, which is very common to occur!
External factors
For others, it is unlikely that anyone will know you are pregnant just by looking at you. This makes the anxiety to see the big baby bump grow even more. It seems like we’ll feel more pregnant with that clear sign that a new love is arriving in our lives. The belly is the clear sign of the multiplication of our hearts!!!
