Sexual intercourse is not just about reproduction, it’s about pleasure! But did you know that this peak of pleasure, also known as orgasm, can help you get pregnant? A recent study conducted in England by two biologists raised this issue. If the female orgasm happens up to 45 minutes after male ejaculation inside the vagina, the chances of pregnancy increase significantly!

Robin Baker and Mark Bellis1 said that an orgasmic relationship results more easily in pregnancy than a non-orgasmic one. This claim is based on the muscular contractions that the uterus is capable of during sexual climax, whether clitoral or not. This “phenomenon” occurs due to the pressure and vacuum created between the sexual organs and the suction caused by uterine contractions during orgasm. The effect during orgasm is similar to a baby’s nasal aspirator. When stimulated, the uterus contracts intensely and relaxes in the same way after the orgasm effect.

Another issue raised by the British researchers is that the birth control pill favors conception for women under 30 years of age. When taken for a few years and then stopped, the chances of conceiving become higher in younger women. For women over the age of 31, however, it is not as easy.

The body may take longer to eliminate the medication, and the effectiveness of the reproductive system starts to decline. The pill is usually based on progesterone or estrogen, which are part of the woman’s natural system, but for women of reproductive age who are over 31, it may actually work against them. For women under 30, stopping the birth control pill acts like an instant start in the body, but for others, regaining fertility may be more problematic and can take up to a few years.

Of the women studied, about 50% above the age of 31 took up to 72 months to regain fertility! Additionally, women from age 35 onward started to have considerable delays in their cycles. Dr. Marilyn, obstetric gynecologist2 said that taking the pill is a woman’s choice, but if she wants to get pregnant, she should stop taking birth control at least 3 months before the desired conception date and already start taking B-complex vitamins and folic acid to prevent possible diseases of the gametes and embryo, like spina bifida for example3.
