History
The origin of the Saab Fertility Center is directly linked to the story of one of its founders, Dr. Karam Abou Saab. Karam completed his residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) in 1977. In 1982, he became a professor of Human Reproduction at the same institution.
Dr. Saab has several recognized achievements throughout his career, such as the first test-tube baby in Paraná and the world’s first birth to a woman who underwent tubal ligation reversal. His professional journey thus laid the foundation for the creation of this Fertility Center, which has three clinics in the state.
About the medical team
In addition to Dr. Karam Saab, the Center has several other professionals in the field who share Dr. Karam’s vision. Most of the doctors at the Saab Fertility Center graduated from the Federal University of Paraná. Furthermore, among them, you can find professionals who specialized in different places, from Brazil to Belgium. They also hold certifications from renowned entities such as the Brazilian Society of Human Reproduction (SBRH) and the Brazilian Society of Assisted Reproduction (SBRA).
About costs and treatments
According to the Saab Fertility Clinic, their goal is to offer personalized, humanized treatment at a fair cost. Thus, the clinic plans treatments case by case, seeking to reduce the number of procedures and medications used, without compromising results. They emphasize that a standardized treatment that does not see each patient as a unique case not only increases costs but can also add extra difficulties for the patients themselves.
They also offer several treatment options for various budgets, such as Simplified IVF, with pay per attempt. The clinic also has a special Low-Cost program for patients with lower income.
Objectives
- Offer fertility treatment options to patients from all social backgrounds.
- Use both more than three decades of experience and the most modern procedures for excellent results.

Differentials
Partnerships
The Saab Fertility Center offers the possibility of treatment with the participation of the doctor already treating the patient, whether a gynecologist, urologist, or andrologist. This way, you can have consultations, exams and follow treatment with your trusted doctor, under the guidance and supervision of the Center’s team. This option is available both for residents of Curitiba and for patients from other cities.
Hotel facilities
There is a hotel structure attached to the Saab Fertility Center, offering comfort and convenience, both for couples from other cities and their doctors, if necessary. This structure offers several options, both for accommodation and comfort, leisure, and food. Being close to the center also makes it easier to perform exams and recover after procedures.
Technical structure
The Saab Fertility Center states that it has all the necessary technical structure, including a complete surgical center and laboratories following strict international standards. This way, according to them, it is possible to have consultations, exams, and procedures all in the same place, which provides convenience for patients.
Oncofertility Program
Cancer can occur at any stage of life, and treatment is usually aggressive, often resulting in permanent loss of fertility. The Oncofertility Program aims to offer support to these patients so they can find a solution to preserve fertility without affecting their oncological treatment. This type of approach is available for men and women, and for patients with diseases like severe aplastic anemia or SLE.
Support group
We know that infertility in couples is not easy and can cause indescribable suffering. It’s an exhausting, difficult period, bringing a lot of insecurity, fear, and frustration. For many patients, having someone to talk to who knows exactly how this situation feels can make all the difference. That’s why the Center provides names, addresses, and phone numbers of several couples who recently became pregnant through Simplified IVF and have kindly shared their contacts. The idea is to encourage dialogue between them, to support couples currently going through the same situation.
Versatile payment options
The Center offers various plans and payment options to adapt to the couple’s financial conditions. Thus, there are installment options, pay-per-attempt options, and ones for patients of more advanced age or with low ovarian reserve. There is also a special Low-Cost program for couples with lower family income.
Simplified IVF
Simplified IVF differs from conventional IVF by using much lower doses of medication. The main difference refers to the reduced doses of ovulation-inducing agents and the absence of ovulation inhibitors. The purpose is to make the process easier for the woman and, by using fewer medications, the cost is also reduced. In some cases, the cost of medications is up to a third of what would normally be seen in conventional IVF.
Juntas Initiative
Infertility and the process of assisted reproduction come with a very particular set of challenges and hardships. Recognizing that this is not an easy journey, the Saab Fertility Center identified the need for psychological support for its patients. Thus the Juntas Initiative was created, in partnership with the Institute of Human Development ConheSER, to promote specialized psychological support and care before, during, and after treatment.
Educational content
Understanding how each step of fertility treatment works is essential for those pursuing the dream of getting pregnant. In this sense, the Saab Fertility Center provides a vast amount of educational content for its patients. This material can be accessed through the Center’s blog, via articles, videos, ebooks, and regular live broadcasts. Various topics are covered, from biological processes to legal and financial matters.
The Clinic in the Media
Having trouble getting pregnant? Find out how to solve the issue.
“Did you know that about 10 to 15% of couples will have some difficulty in getting pregnant? According to Dr. Karyna Bustelo Saab, specialist in Assisted Reproduction, the normal period for trying is up to one year: “Young couples should seek medical help for pregnancy after one year of having sexual intercourse at least twice a week without using contraceptive methods. But, when the woman is over 35, the couple should seek help after 6 months of trying,” she explains.

‘On the installment plan’: companies sell tombs, cosmetic surgery, and BMWs in installments
“For Dr. Karam, the financial effort is worth it, but requires caution. “The desire to have children is so strong that couples are willing to make any sacrifice, including financial ones, to achieve it,” he says. “Our concern is that the sacrifice should not be too heavy, because every treatment has a chance of not working. And it can’t be an irreversible event for the couple’s financial life.”

Paraná doctor achieves unprecedented case in medicine
“Yesterday, in Curitiba, the simple birth of a baby – Marcel Cherobim Junior – marked an unprecedented case in world medicine. It was the first delivery following a tubal ligation reversal (fallopian tube ligation) by video laparoscopy. This is a revolutionary procedure developed by Paranaense doctor Karam Abou Saab, in which the operation is performed without the need for a large incision and, consequently, without an abdominal scar.”

Paraná has its first test-tube baby
“Rosemary Lima de Godoy was fertilized in September of last year. She was the only case, out of 20 women, in which in vitro fertilization was successful. According to Dr. Karam, she had a genital infection that damaged one ovary and both tubes, which were removed in April last year. The mother of the test-tube baby is 24 years old and has another son, an eight-year-old boy. The doctor explained she got pregnant on her first attempt at fertilization…”

Doctor launches book “Preserving Fertility: The End of Infertility”
“As well as being responsible for the first ‘test-tube baby’ originally conceived in the state, in 1986, Dr. Karam was the first doctor in the world to reverse tubal ligation by video-laparoscopy, which brought him international recognition. In the same year, he was responsible for the first pregnancy in Brazil in a menopausal woman.”
