History

The Satis Clinic, opened in 2002, operates in partnership with Dona Helena Hospital, the largest in the city of Joinville. Founded in 1916, Dona Helena Hospital was one of the first hospital institutions in the country to guarantee the ISO seal in all its services. Initially called Evangelical Ladies Relief Society, in 1956 it was renamed Evangelical Benevolent Association of Joinville, which is the hospital’s current managing organization.

Since its foundation, the Hospital has undergone several expansions and innovations, such as the inauguration of the Diagnostic Imaging Center (1992), the expansion of the Clinical Analysis Laboratory with 24-hour service (1994), and accreditation with SUS in 2004.

Satis Clinic was one of these expansions, with the goal of providing care for couples with fertility problems in Joinville and the surrounding area. As the Clinic is annexed to the hospital and obstetrics center, examinations and medical procedures are carried out together with the structure of Dona Helena Hospital.

In 2014, Dona Helena obtained an important hospital certification: Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, becoming the first institution in Santa Catarina to receive the Gold Seal Approval.

About the medical staff

The medical team consists of only three people. Dr. Fábio Choma, a gynecologist trained at the Evangelical Medical School of Paraná, serves as the clinic’s director, along with Dr. Ana Silvia Teixeira Choma, also a graduate of the same institution. The team also includes embryologist Anna Carolina Lenz Graf, who graduated from the University of Vale do Itajaí.

About costs and treatments

There is no information about costs on the website or on social media. Specific prices are provided only after a medical consultation, which costs R$350. However, users say that a standard treatment is around R$20,000. Since the clinic is attached to a private hospital, there is also the possibility of treatment through health insurance plans, such as Amil, as well as the insurance offered by the hospital itself.

“When a man in his 30s held his newborn son in his arms, in the early hours of Friday at a maternity hospital in Joinville, not even a cliché like ‘miracle of life’ could convey how many obstacles had been overcome before the baby’s birth.”
