With so many new experiences, surprises, and delights that come with motherhood, a new way to announce a baby’s sex to the whole family has been created, known as the gender reveal party. The gender reveal party is the latest sensation, having started abroad and brought to Brazil as a fun method to announce whether you’re expecting a little princess or prince.

When the couple finds out the baby’s sex, they want to tell everyone, right? And what better way than with a party surrounded by everyone who is important in the baby’s life? Keep the news a secret and save the announcement for EVERYONE at the moment of the big reveal!

Surprise Discovery

Or, if you want to be surprised too, tell the doctor during the ultrasound that you don’t want to know the sex, and that the news should be given to a specific person who will enter right after the mom-to-be leaves. This person will be in charge of planning how to reveal the sex—even to the parents.

Decoration

When putting together the party, you can really let your creativity shine, and even though friends and family don’t know the sex, they can help with the decoration—after all, it will all make everyone even more curious.

Colorful balloons or the classic blue and pink theme to hint at boy or girl, tablecloths in matching colors, as well as the cake, sweets, and all the treats used to decorate the table.

Don’t let any detail give away the real sex of the baby except in the chosen method of revealing it to your family. You can scatter flags, curtains, or even signs around the venue, and to make it even more fun, why not organize a guessing game?

You can set up, at the entrance, two containers with paper and pens so guests can write down their guesses, or a chalkboard with “boy” and “girl” written on it where every guest can mark their bet as they arrive.

The Reveal Moment

The reveal moment usually happens by cutting the cake, which on the outside matches the parents’ chosen decoration—blue and pink or all colorful—but inside has a filling that reveals the baby’s sex.

Another option is to use a box with helium balloons, which, when opened, fly out into the room spreading the good news and announcing the long-awaited baby’s sex. Either option, or any others you can think of, is always a lot of fun, as the bets for each sex are typically evenly split among friends and family.
