Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can bring several unpleasant symptoms, health issues, and even get in the way of the much-desired pregnancy1. The good news is that there are alternatives to relieve these symptoms and regulate your cycle, and today we’re going to learn more about two of them: FamiSitol and Fertisop.
What is the difference between FamiSitol and Fertisop?
I am often asked about the differences between these two products, and the answer is: they both have the same ingredients! FamiSitol and FertiSop are supplements whose main ingredient is myo-inositol2. They are also enriched with folic acid3, which is essential for the baby’s development in the first months. Both are presented in sachet form, to be dissolved in water and taken once a day. In other words, they are essentially the same product! The myo-inositol, as presented in FamiSitol and FertiSop, does not affect weight, as it doesn’t have a significant number of calories, proteins, or carbohydrates. They are also not considered medications, but rather vitamin supplements. Therefore, they have no contraindications and can be used by most women. But so you have no doubts, we’ve made a table comparing FamiSitol and Fertisop:
What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?
PCOS is a syndrome that involves several hormonal imbalances. It’s a very common syndrome, and is estimated to affect at least 10% of women of reproductive age! One way to identify PCOS is by checking if the woman has at least two of the following three characteristics:
- Small cysts on the ovaries
- Irregular cycles
- Excess of male hormones
The exact causes of PCOS are not well known, but it is known that it can be related to genetic factors, inflammation, and insulin resistance. This last factor is important, as PCOS is very common in obese women or those with type 2 diabetes. In fact, about 80% of women with PCOS suffer from what is known as metabolic syndrome, which has consequences such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar levels.
What is myo-inositol?
Myo-inositol is a B-complex vitamin that acts as a messenger for important hormones, such as insulin and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). A hormonal messenger helps these hormones work better in the body. This way, myo-inositol can help regulate various hormones related to PCOS, depending on each individual.
This means that myo-inositol can decrease the amount of male hormones in the body, improve ovarian function, regulate cycles, and help with conception.
I did a lot of research on myo-inositol, and spoke with several doctors and fertility specialists about this topic. There are many supplements that don’t live up to what they promise. In the case of myo-inositol, you can trust it: numerous scientific studies show that it can help regulate hormones and relieve the symptoms of PCOS.
